What is Saliva? State its role in the digestion of food.

Saliva is a watery fluid secreted by the salivary gland in the mouth. In the mouth, food gets mixed up with saliva secreted b salivary glands. Saliva contains an enzyme salivary amylase which breaks polysaccharide starch into disaccharide maltose (sugar).
